Así reaccionó el príncipe William cuando le preguntaron qué piensa si uno de sus hijos es gay

El nieto de la reina Isabel le respondió a un joven que le preguntó qué pensaría si uno de sus tres hijos es gay.

Durante su visita a Albert Kennedy Trust, una organización benéfica a favor de gays y lesbianas, el duque de Cambridge no tuvo reparo en afirmar que ha pensado mucho en que posiblemente uno de sus hijos George, Charlotte o Louis se pueda declarar homosexual y aseguró que no tendría problema con el asunto, sin embargo, tiene algunas preocupaciones entorno a lo que podría suceder si se llegase a dar.

“Lo he estado pensando recientemente porque un par de otros padres también me lo dijeron a mí. Creo que realmente no empiezas a pensar en eso hasta que eres un padre, y creo que, obviamente, todo está bien para mí… Me preocupa cómo los demás reaccionarán y lo percibirán, y luego la presión está sobre ellos”, afirmó en segundo en la línea de sucesión al trono británico, quien añadió que le molestaría algunas “barreras, palabras de odio, persecución y discriminación” que pueda existir contra sus hijos.

También añadió que el tema lo ha conversado con su esposa Kate Middleton y quieren estar a la altura de la situación. “Kate y yo hemos estado hablando mucho sobre eso para asegurarnos de que estuvieran preparados. Creo que la comunicación es muy importante en todo, para poder entenderlo, tienes que hablar mucho sobre temas y asegurarte de cómo apoyarnos y cómo pasar por el proceso”, comentó.

William ya había mostrado su apoyo a la comunidad LGBTI en 2016 cuando fue la portada de la revista Attitude, publicación enfocada al público gay.

Ahead of the annual #prideinlondon parade and in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising, The Duke of Cambridge visited Albert Kennedy Trust (akt) to learn about the issue of LGBTQ+ youth homelessness, and the positive change that akt are enacting through their unique prevention and early action approach. The Duke met people supported by akt, and spoke to staff about the services they provide including the ‘Purple Door’ safe house, LGBTQ+ ‘host’ (or carer) services, in-person and online mentoring programmes and a range of youth engagement activities. Among the people The Duke met was Faz, an akt Young Ambassador and trans Muslim man. Faz lost his parents when he was younger and was living with extended family, but had to leave home after they reacted badly to him coming out as trans. akt helped support Faz, and he was one of the first people to move into Purple Door. Almost one quarter of the 150,000 young people facing or experiencing homelessness identify as LGBTQ+, and 77 per cent of those cite rejection or abuse from their families as what has led them to being so. akt has provided over 250,000 nights off the street and supported over 50,000 LGBTQ+ young people at risk of or experiencing homelessness. Today The Duke officially opened akt’s new services centre in Hoxton, which will host drop-in sessions for young people and grow its youth engagement offering. The Stonewall uprising took place in New York on June 28, 1969, and is seen as the moment that sparked the modern LGBTQ+ movement around the world.
